Make sure you are aware of any issues that can arise with your oral health when you are pregnant. Oftentimes a pregnancy can leave you at an increased risk for periodontal disease, also known as gum disease. To help eliminate oral health risks associated with a pregnancy, be sure to continue to care for your teeth and gums. If you begin to neglect your oral health care while you are pregnant, you could be at an increased risk for preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, and premature delivery.

When you are pregnant, be sure to continue to clean your mouth on a daily basis. Use soft-bristled toothbrushes to clean your teeth and gums and don’t forget to clean your tongue as well. Furthermore, use interdental cleaning tools such as dental floss to clean between your teeth in areas your brush cannot reach.

Visit our dentist regularly while pregnant and let them know of your current condition. Always be sure to let them know of any prenatal vitamins and medications you may be taking and alert them of your current oral health care status.
